I believe the Marathon is run on the Monday in April which is closest to April 19 (Patriot's Day proper). It is a statewide holiday. There is also always a game at Fenway. Plus all the re-enactments. Imagine the traffic problems if it were not a holiday. If y'all really show up, I will arrange the Palooza.

As for whether people in Boston party, I offer you this:

Today's Boston Globe:

In a nondescript Boston apartment amid small businesses and artists' lofts, authorities this week found what may have been one of the largest methamphetamine manufacturing operations in the state after the discovery of the body of an admired local artist who apparently moved in a world of clandestine sex and drugs.

Responding to a call from the man's friends, police said they found the body of 29-year-old Kevin D. McCormick in his Congress Street apartment in the Fort Point district, the victim of a heart attack suffered during sex acts.

and Boston Herald :

Investigators believe five people were squatting in the nondescript building, which some neighbors described as “quiet.”

That changed Sunday when police found McCormick, 29, dead in a room called “The Dungeon.” He was wearing a mask and wetsuit-style body suit. Police have not identified McCormick as the dead man, but Bachrach said it was him.

A man whose employer rents space in the building described “group bondage parties” and other “weird (expletive).” He also said hamsters had been found in the basement.
