To me it sounds wrong--the Man should give you that stuff. Don't many bigger law partnerships even give allowances to new partners to furnish their digs?
Anyway, I'd go get stuff that you like and would want to take with you. To start, I'd check prices on the internet, and then go back to the firm and ask them how much they're willing to raise their offer to cover the furniture expenses. Then decide whether they've raised their offer enough to command your loyalty.

I've worked at a place where you had an allowance from a particular catalog once you made partner- until then you got dreck- but at least they gave me a desk and chair. I've also worked at a place where the firm provided everyone with very inexpensive furniture. If you wanted more, you could spend your money. Only the fancy partners did so.
I've never heard of not giving anything. I'd work off the floor for awhile until they back down. plus, once word got around, someone eccentric, like Madonna might decide she digs the whole stripped down "lawyer on floor" approach and you'd get a new client. that would put some art on the walls.
