I think he has young daughters. The starting point might be where he and his wife want to raise them during the next four years. I'd bet the kids want to stay in California. He and his wife might want them to get more exposure to Germany for language/culture reasons.
Where his family is, one way or the other, is likely where he'll end up coaching.
