I have to say that paying the extra may not really be worth it, but damn the one pair of maglis is fucking comfortable. Soft leather and the right shape. The really nice pair I use primarily for suits need/ed to be broken in and they are decidedly unfuckingcomfortable. But they look better than any shoes I've ever owned.

*The absolute worst-made shoes I've ever owned. Ever. The soles cracked down the middle (on both shoes!) and started coming off after 6 weeks. I sent them back, thinking they'd send me new shoes and they just slapped some glue on them and shipped 'em right back. I will never buy anything from that piece of shit store again.

That's why H&M is good for short-term casual clothes. You know you're buying shit, but at least it's priced that way (you've got to sift your way through the uber-euro stuff). Kenneth Cole charges $130+ for shoes, which is asinine considering how cheap they are.
I had a pair of Johnston & Murphy's split just like you described, but they replaced them. I still don't think J&M are that great of shoes.
