I have heard arguments that a lot of horses end up in the slaughterhouses because their owners don't want to deal with them anymore. Cremation? What do they do with the dogs and cats?

And, you have made me remember the Animal Rescue (or whatever), filmed in the Houston area, that featured a horse (living) with a huge hole in its neck.
