Do you think they will help their cause by not trotting out whatever message they can if they retake the House? I can see why many commentators have suggested they'd be better off not winning the house in 2006. That way they can run on pie in the sky ideas in 2008, whereas if they have control of the house, they could reasonably be expected to try to advance something . . . and if they fail, have it bite them.

Help their cause before November or after? Right now, I think they're completely focused on trying to win the House. They think the GOP is unpopular, and they'd rather make the election a referendum on the GOP's record than on their proposals.
I disagree with this strategy because I don't think it takes too much of a short-term perspective. I think they need to talk more about what they'd do, because that's what gives them the political capital to do it later, whether or not voters picked them for that reason -- and I don't think their agenda will matter much to voters this fall.
