Standards are very low where I work. Mr. Man and ncs would be best qualified to comment whether I look like a 2L interviewing or whatever, though they rarely see me in work clothes.

I have never seen you look like a 2L interviewing, but I think you may be taking bnb's statement a bit more literally than it was intended. (Not that Ann Taylor clothes look like summer associate clothes, but that they were the clothes that she bought before being a summer associate. And now that I think about it, I shopped there quite a bit for first year associate suits, all of which have now left my closet.)
I have some work pants from Ann Taylor and I must be the person they design them for because those are among my more comfortable and better fitting work pants. I do agree that the store tends too far towards synthectic fibers, though having a bit of stretch in some of the work pants is nice. And recall that I also have been known to buy Gap work pants, so most likely my standards cannot be trusted.
The only department store I go into regularly at this point is Nordstrom and really that is only because I have one across the street from my apartment. It is almost always disappointing too because it was a test store that was made significantly smaller than most Nordstroms and so selection in all areas (including, alas, shoes) is limited*. After they opened that store, I have heard that the response was not good and they bagged the idea of smaller Nordstrom stores in the future. Lucky me.
*Though now that I think about it, the men's department does tend to have good items and the men's shoe department is almost as big as women's so maybe this was some mastermind plot by a man to limit the women's stuff while getting full selection for himself. Evil genius.
