 Actually, it not even "ironic" under the definition of "unexpected" because the reaction is exactly what I would expect.
 
 Did you hear the latest Osama and the 9/11 hijackers video claimed 9/11 was to revenge Bosnia? That's ironic too, just like Ty's joke- BUT BOTH AREN'T FUNNY.

 Clever, yes, funny, no.  Perhaps you didn't whiff.  Perhaps it was just an overreaction to a post,  one which makes it clear you didn't really fully understand the poster's meaning.  What do we call that?
Perhaps he was using "irony" in this sense:
–noun, plural -nies. 1. the use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning: the irony of her reply, “How nice!” when I said I had to work all weekend.
