Parents should be careful especially around dogs. There is nothing that irritates me more than some parent that encourages their kid to run up to "pet the doggies with the long hair." All dogs, including the nicest, sweetest, cutest dog in the world, will snap if they're surprised or startled. And kids have a knack of doing unexpected, very quick things that irritate dogs.
