There was no smoking gun in Delay's case. Generally, and of course there are exceptions, the Republicans and Dems circle the wagons. But with the Repubs, once the smoking gun comes out, the dude is gone. The Democrats generally fight on until the bitter end.
If it came to light (and it was established fact that they coudln't deny) that either Bush I or Bush II had received a blow job in the oval office they would have been pushed out quicker than you can say Spanky.
