It is. And yet -- as I pointed out -- other Democrats with essentially Joe's position on Iraq -- like Feinstein and Cantwell -- haven't had his troubles and do not inspire the same sort of distaste among Dems.

This Administration won't be around forever. It would be good if future adminstrations didn't handle things the same way, although I fear a cycle of revenge. Gotta think long term.
In other words, it would be good if conservatives would put aside their own views about what's best for the country and instead act according to an agenda based on what centrists think. It's not a question of revenge. One of Tom DeLay's insights was this: If you can pass a bill through the House with 220 Representatives and 51 Senators, why should you make concessions to pad the margin of victory? This is how the GOP is playing the game. "It would be good" if Iraqs stopped fighting each other, too.

Sadly, Joe's politics, such as they are, largely amount to saying that such things "would be good," and thereby scoring points as a voice of reason, without doing anything about anything.

I'm not sure why he answered that way. Not a politically astute answer.
He was trying not to alienate Republicans. Any Democrat who sees that answer and cares is already voting against him.

Maybe he is taking personally all the shit slung at him by many on the left of the Party . . . .
There is that possibility. Which is why people worry about him crossing over the aisle.
