Absolutely. I had a similar situation in college, when I dated a nice Indian guy who, it turned out, wanted the date a wacky American girlfriend who actually thought she was fully human that he could amuse his hometown friends with stories about, then go back home and marry someone uneducated his parents selected for him who would be his unquestioning slave.
I'd have killed myself first if I were his prospective bride, but as it was I merely had to dump him.
