That and the whole "the Pope is the Whore of Babylon" thing that was prevalent amongst those who settled the region.
In fact, residues of this attitude remain. When I went into a post office in the South recently after a deposition down there, there were several
of these Jack Chick pamphlets on the tables by the stamp machines.
