I knew a wildly genetically flawed purebred yellow labrador from a puppymill in Missouri. An at-that-time soon-to-be busy family who were first time dog owners became his owner. He survived being lead poisoned, epileptic (with seizures of a frequency of 10-12/hour for weeks), double hip dysplasia and hip recontruction surgery in his first 6 months of life, but, he had a good soul, was very loyal and ended up surviving to be a great friend and perfect (in lots of imperfect ways) pet for over 12 years....until this morning...he's missed.
In my experience any dog can be a great pet, its a large measure of what the people put into the relationship. I wish the Obamas luck and joy in the dog that they get.
