am i paranoid or are they trying to stop soemthing that other patrons find objectionable? if so, isn't that rude to me? I recognize that my behavior is not examplary but wonder who Ms. Manners would find most out of proper norms of restaurant manners.
You are not paranoid. And while Miss Manners does teach that telling someone his or her behavior is rude is itself rude, she also advocates indirect methods of either stopping such behavior or indicating that it is not acceptable. Their offering to clear your plate is not rude, unless it would also be rude for someone to open a window in the car after you farted.
