But no one is being deported because they applied for a license. We've established, through our normal law-making process, rules concerning who gets to move here from outside our borders, as does most any sovereign country. If someone is here in contravention of those laws, they are existing illegally here. Unless we all get to pick and choose which laws we wish to see applied in our daily lives, I think we can work to change the laws with which we disagree, but we should follow them. Rule of law, and all that fun stuff.
Granted, individual cases always paint a sympathetic picture, but the macro view actually counts, here, too - a large influx of immigrants causes disruption to our economy, and also lessens our ability to provide for security against dangerous individuals from outside our boundaries - a valid concern these days.
