(1) we can in July and August (at least in NE)
(2) those round red things you get in most markets aren't tomatoes. They've been bred with thick skins for transport, at the cost of taste and juciness
(3) you have to get them really fresh - like with corn, the sugars start starching as soon as they're picked. A day later, they're not as sweet
(4) truly fresh canned, when they're still sweet, can be a lot better than fresh-from-Latin America
