I don't track it as carefully for the past couple of years, but I can still spitball it pretty accurately at any given time.
I indulge -- like tonight when the lma and I will cap our workout with either pizza or chinese, or, if he is feeling "fat," sushi for him and sashimi for me -- but I pay attention and balance everything.
That's easy for me now, but that's not a weight loss plan that will work for my friend. In my opinion, he needs to take a hard look at his lifestyle and adjust his nutrition, exercise (he does play a sport competitively), and drinking. But, since he knows I have a mild ed, I don't have credibility on the issue.
