A high-end watch is the most absurd of luxury items. Why not just get yourself a jewelled bracelet?

I agree on the "look at me - I got a bonus in excess of $15k!" Rolex Submariner every moderately successful male between 25 and 35 seems to buy. But a decent Day/Date or Datejust in solid stainless steel with a conservative band is a classic look that goes with everything. It's got great snob appeal as well, as it consciously notes, "No, I did not go with the diving watch because, as we both know, neither one of us goes diving, you ass."
NTTAWWDiving watches. The Submariner just irks me. It's too big and showy - looks as big as a dinner roll plate on all but a morbidly obese man's wrist.
