Good lord, people. Burger, you've turned into Ty. The rule is the rule. If you hit any part of the batter, he takes his base. I don't understand this "Well, he shouldn't make the call because the rule
should be this..." attitude. I agree that they shouldn't be allowed to wear armor and the pitch should have to make contact with the player's body. But that ain't the rule.
And the hit by pitch rule is a bright line rule, unlike balls and strikes, which everyone knows are called on an amorphous standard day in and day out. Did the pitch touch the batter? Yes. Okay. Take your base. An ump blowing that call is different than an awful ball or strike call.
