Placebo effect requires a strong belief in the treatment beyond any reasonable analysis. Therefore, those who experience a placebo effect already believe the treatment will work and their own results act as a confirmation of that strongly held belief. Their confirmation bias blocks any conflicting information out of the analysis.
I only took psych classes to meet weird chicks and yet this was pretty basic stuff. Your frustration seems very odd. I'm beginning to doubt Penske on the paralegal thing.
