Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Saw this over the weekend. It was good standing on its own. (I haven't seen the original in so long that I couldn't make any coherent comparison, but the remake is different, and has a somewhat more consistent, darker and more polished tone - not sure if that is necessarily good or bad, given the above mentioned long time since I've seen the original.) It is a refreshingly straightforward horror movie - not making smart-ass inter-textual jokes, no satire, nothing but pretty straight narrative. And the effect is surprisingly sincerely scary. I was very pleased that a movie taking a simple "so, there's this town of inbred mutant freaks and a chainsaw guy who hacks people up and wears them" was so effective.

Anyhow, worth seeing, should give you lots of nifty nightmares from some really memorable scenes. The Mr. couldn't sleep at all after and was up until 4 am on the internet looking up stuff about Ed Gein. Even jaded old me had some colorful dreams.

BR(when I've had a chance to rent the original again, I will post my compare/contrast analysis)C

NB: no one gets their tits out. Doesn't detract.
