"Version of" was a poor choice of words. I think he meant "take on" or "send-up of," i.e., Spinal Tap = an American spoof of British bands.

Sorta true, but Christopher Guest, while born in NYC, is actually a British peer --- Fifth Baron Haden-Guest of Saling. He inherited the title from his father and has a seat in the House of Lords. He's also a member of another elite club --- people who know whether Jamie Lee Curtis actually has a penis.
