But there are several large vendors of fruits and vegetables. Why would people buy bananas, grapes, mangos, etc. from someone on the sidewalk rather than from a grocery store with a good produce section?

But I'm keeping my eyes open to see if the morel season will be early this year due to the warm weather. And I'm going to plan ahead how to saute and freeze some -- they didn't last long enough last year.

I only buy produce from the Pike Market, which is open year round. they do a better job getting quality produce than safeway or albertsons et al. Also, I don't like to suppourt those greedy corporate giants. ymmv.
