I should have said why would someone in
Minnesota buy fruits that don't grow within 1,000 miles of here from a person who sells them on the sidewalk once a week.
I expect the product you get in coastal Texas in April is vastly different but the non-local stuff doesn't look to be better quality and is certainly not fresher than the local grocery chains.
On the other hand, I love buying from the growers at the farmers market when the seasonal stuff comes in. Super fresh, typically good quality. I just don't buy bananas, grapes and mangoes from them.
