As far as quaint goes in Indiana, there is a artsy town called Nashville in Brown County south of Indy that has typical artsy town stuff (playhouse, shops, country restaurants). Southern Indiana and Kentucky are far more pleasant to drive through because of rolling hills, etc. than any part of Ohio or the northern parts of IN.
