A friend went this year with his wife and kids, 10, 7 and 5. It resulted in a lot of experiences that made for hilarious retellings and lifelong memories, but some of which were deeply unpleasant as experienced. My favorite part of the story was when the family left their passports in the charter van and had to repurchase them from the driver's brother. The negotiations were handled by Bobby, age 10, because it was time for the Spanish immersion school to pay dividends. As the story goes Bobby handled it beautifully, because a 10 year old is perhaps uniquely capable of parting with $300 without ever saying "This is fucking extortion!" and potentially offending the blackmailer.
