You can usually get away with having the waist taken in about 2 inches, tops, and about 3-4 inches on the chest and shoulders. Anything beyond that, and unless you have a master tailor who can reset the pockets and all kinds of other expensive things, it will look like you had your Daddy's suit downsized.
