A bit of noxious self-congratulation by the SCOTUS. If the Alien and Sedition Acts cases had made it to the SCOTUS, they would have upheld the law for several (admittedly bad) reasons. The universal denunciation of the A&SA is America's worst
post hoc except for slavery.
