This. My boss runs Boston every year and was there -- his mom's a runner of some acclaim in her age group and was still on the course. Thousands of miles away, I spent yesterday alternating between sadness and fury. It gives a glimpse into the mindset within a combat zone, where the constant possibility of sudden and unprovided death weighs on your mind and causes a kind of psychosis.
