Just so. I can't remember the movie, but there's a scene where a black guy and a Puerto Rican woman are negotiating something or other (hostage payoff? something criminal - natch) with a white guy in middle America. The black guy helpfully points out to the PR girl that, "Here, you're black,too."
Unlike in NYC (I think I've told this story before), where I overheard one gal inform her friend, "I ain't black, I'm Puerto Rican -- it ain't the same thing."
