The (anniversary) US Theatrical version is supposedly still the best, but the directors (collector's) cut is more readily available. The 2-disk scandinavian version has crappy sound & picture transfer, but Argento's "Zombi" cut is supposed to be interesting.
Anchor Bay is going to do a big re-release sometime in 2004 with extras, the Zombi film, more interviews, etc., presumably to capitalize on the remake. Since their US Theatrical version ran for, what, $150, when it was still in print, I expect the new one to cost roughly $789.95, but you may want to wait for it.
edited to add: just discovered that the remake is aiming for a PG-13. I will go home now and throw up. What a fucking waste of time.
