See, I think the term is getting too watered down. Diluted, if you will. I reserve the term for situations in which a poster makes a particular joke and looks expectantly at the crowd for approval, not realizing that
the exact same specific joke was embedded in the post to which they’re responding. It’s not simply “missing something”; that happens every day. We need to get back to the canonical whiff. There is only one type, and all other forms of Not Catching The Joke are not noteworthy enough even to be given a name.
