When I looked into doing this for Ireland, the rule was that your children born AFTER you had obtained dual citizenship were citizens, but it wasn’t retroactive. Since we’d already had one kid at that point, I didn’t bother — siblings have enough shit to be angry about and we didn’t want to add “Dad didn’t love me enough to activate Irish citizenship in time for my birth” to the mix.
I think this varies greatly based on national laws, so YMMV. Maybe Italian citizenship is worth less so they give it away?
