In the end, I leased an e-Golf. We were going to buy, but the finance guy persuaded us it makes more sense to lease, and it was not a hard sell, because I'm betting the electric-car technology will improve a lot in the next three years. I asked him, what is VW going to do with a bunch of three-year-old electric cars? He said, they're going to send them back to the factory, replace the batteries with engines, and sell them in Eastern Europe.
