Thanks for the input. I never drive in/into the city (train to/from). And while the third row isn't necessary, there are certainly plenty of times when the neighbor and I will throw all four kids into one car, which is nice (and not do-able without the third row).

We have a Volvo XC-90 and like it enough -- would rather drive something smaller with a stick shift, but that's not an option if you need a third row.
