I have one night to spend in Miami area (this coming Sunday night). I'm flying out of MIA Monday around noon. I'm considering Key Biscayne instead of South Beach, but would love to hear about other options... I'll be driving down from Naples on Sunday early afternoon and would like to have a mini tropical experience, but have no need for ridiculous twenty-something drunken fools, crazy tourist crowds or the like. Just want to get to a hotel (or bnb* or airbnb), have a fruity drink, gaze at the ocean, maybe have a nice dinner. You may also take into account that I'm not a rich lawyer-type, so unless it's a Starwood property I won't be staying at a fancy resort unless it's at a deep discount. Suggestions?

*no, I'm not hitting up BnB to stay at her place.
I am by no means an expert on The 3-0-5 (translation - visited a client there twice, and had one case there that brought me down a few more times), but no visit to Miami is complete without at least thinking about eating stone crabs at Joe's. (Confession - I had fried chicken the last time I was there because they had run out or something, and it was awesome. The key lime pie is also Not Bad.) They might only be open seasonally and the stone crabs are definitely seasonal, so ...

Also, consider a breakfast of toasted pan Cubana and cafe con leche. Any bakery will do. And read Tom Wolfe's Back to Blood on the plane. Unless you hate Tom Wolfe, which many people do.
