The extent of tension between progressive Jews in the US and the Israeli government today is extraordinary. In the US a lot of it relates to the occupation, but in Israel I think just as much of it is religious. Both the right wing religious groups and the fundamentalist isolationist religious groups view American reform Judaism (let alone the Reconstructionists I'm releated to) as heretical at best. It's a sad state of affairs.
