It's a bummer for people like SEC Chick who have seen their movement hijacked and taken in a different direction, but that's what conservatism is now. Most people who call themselves conservatives support Trump.
And there is a lot more continuity between Trump and conservatism than some people want to admit. The discontinuities turn out to be not that important to most conservative voters.

An aside... I ran into an old line R congressman the other nite. I asked if he'd worked with Trump and if Trump was truly as dumb as he seemed. This person said he's actually quite smart, but does not like to read, has no patience, and doesn't wish to become informed on issues because that would cause him to rethink his planks, and it's easier for him to just ignore criticism and chug ahead. That's the description of a strange, lazy person.
