Patent Law cases almost never get to the Supreme Court, but this morning a case my firm won at the Appeals Court level was heard by the Supreme Court (you hire a S Ct. specialist to argue). It was an arcane issue of administrative law mixed with how the Patent Office works. I can't remember if all 9 Judges asked questions, but at least 8 did. The questions from each were informed and intelligent. It was reassuring to see the competence. Sometimes I think the circus around confirmation paints them in a way that does not go away, but there were no clowns.
