A week after September 11, 2001, the weekly staff meeting was held. This was the first time everyone in the office had the chance to actually talk about what had happened and share stories. It was still very a very raw and emotional time, and we were all glad to be in the same room with one another and really have a chance to talk. Boss walks in, says something about how sad it was and that we all had better stop procrastinating and using 9/11 as an excuse for not working. He lectured us for 20 minutes and then the meeting was over.
Six weeks later, the mass resignation started. I called a headhunter immediately after the meeting. So did two other attorneys in our group, and as far as I know my former boss is the only person still at the firm who was at that staff meeting.
