I read an interesting theory that the rise of the hairless man can be tied to the fact that gay men now dictate fashion for straight men, as they have always done for straight women. Boyhood is in vogue; manhood less so. I guess gays who are into bears aren't the fashion world's bigwigs. While doubtless this is a good thing up to a point, gradually male fashion models, and men generally, are going to inch further from Burt Reynolds to Leonardo DiCaprio toward, eventually, Asian houseboy.
Speaking as one of the hirsute, I'm glad to see the trend reversed back toward our fashions being dictated by lesbian women. Bring on the hairy armpits and comfortable shoes!
