The comfortable shoes I can accept, but hairy armpits? I don't think so.
As far as telling people you are gay, even if you aren't in a hostile environment sometimes you just don't feel like dealing with it. Hostile or not, there is always a reaction. And of course, hostile is a relative thing. You might think you aren't hostile, he might not be sure.
Of course, he could be straight. Or bi. Or marrying someone cause he wants to have kids. Who knows.
