This is, indeed, good practice. Very few things irritate my parents more than receiving an invitation addressed to Dr. and Mrs. Balt Parents. Dr. and Dr. is acceptable (but not prefered); Mr. and Mrs. escapes notice. Balt Mother finds Mr. and Dr. to be amusing, but acknowledges that this is hypocritical.
