I have known a number of people with dreadlocks, one of whom I socialized with quite regularly. It is a myth that you cannot wash your hair with dreads. You just have to be gentle about it.
I also think it is a myth that Rastafarians are forbidden to wash their hair, but I do not have the time to Google that now.
