And, totally unrelated, because I am fairly certain she does not wear spats, where is Fugee? She is MIA.
I love you, GWINKY, but if you vomit on my spats, I'll kill you.

Yes, but that's kind of the point of this board, isn't it. If you can't be judgmental (to be fair, there's a big difference between criticizing the way Julianne Moore looks, because she has tons of money and can afford to look however she wants, and criticizing the way some homeless person looks) to some extent, it makes life pretty dull. If I am not permitted to say Celine Dion's music sucks, because that is being judgmental and therefore in bad taste, that's a little rEdiculous.
I was trying to make a point and didn't feel like being verbose about it. Contrary to how I used to be, I now try to limit my words per post.Back to top

Funny thing - before all this "down with infirm, set up a new board" stuff, I was pretty much only reading the boards about twice a month.

I thought Vogue, etc. were saying the 80s were coming back? So perhaps she's merely cutting edge and ppnyc is now hopelessly out of date.
I tried on a jacket the other day with (not noticeable on the rack) big, pointy shoulder pads and it made me look like a short, stacked linebacker. If they do come back, I'll be happily uncool and stay away!
Come to think of it, I do miss my little ankle-high reeboks too though...Back to top

fashion goes on a 20 year cycle, so that stands to reason. I think it's all about interpretation. You can pay a wink-wink tribute to an era without looking fossilized, no? all the fashion rags pay homage to the Dynasty Crystal Carrington era. But with somewhat of a current spin, no?Back to top

The new Ben & Jerry's Oatmeal Cruch ice cream is delicious. In case anyone was wondering.
And there have been too many posts in a row with no mention of reality tv. Who do we think will be the first person voted off American Idol? Is there any chance in hell it won't be Carmen "tweety bird" Rasmussen?Back to top

Speaking as a suburban white boy, I loved the Clash and don't think you give them enough credit. London's Calling was a seminal record. I give them credit for attempting to be musical as well, while retaining some punk chops. I also want to defend U2's War, which is the best album they ever did. Before they got fat and happy.
The problem with the others you mention is that their music really sucks. They couldn't play and listening to them is like fingernails on a blackboard. Everyone worships the Sex Pistols because of the lives they led, but come on, not what I would call excellent music. Interesting as an anthropological statement I suppose, but entirely unlistenable more than once or twice.
As for Sublime, they're an ok act, but aren't breaking any new ground. The rock/reggae thing has been done better by others, including Police, the Untouchables, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, and -- forgive me, because I know I'm missing one other huge one, but am drawing a blank right now.Back to top

Hmmm.....so if I see a hugely pregnant woman waddling around in acid washed jeans and a green v-necked Venezia sweater, I'll know it's you, huh?
To GWNC - we must be on the same wavelength because I was wondering where Fugee was just last night.

Oh my GOD! If you see me waddling around dressed like that right now, please shoot me and then let everyone know I was channeling my 80's wild child!
HOWEVER, if I manage to get out of my pajamas these days, its a good day...I am getting bigger and bigger and more and more uncomfortable with every passing minute!
Here's a dilemma I actually need fashion help with...
My mother (BITCH) is throwing a black tie party exactly 6 weeks after I deliver the Brazenette. I have nothing to wear, and and unable to shop as I have no idea what size I might be by then, or how big the Boldn'Brazen Boobies will be then....sooooo what to do? I'm thinking last minute shopping may be the only way to go.

And while we're on the rawk-n-roll thread, I'm disturbed to note that my 2 1/2 year old daughter has her first rock star crush. Saw a solo bookstore gig by Rett Miller (Old 97s front man). Since then, she gets all giggley whenever she hears his songs.
Love the avatar Ollie.
Your daughter could do a lot worse. Rhett Miller is incredibly charismatic. He often performs around LA and the female celebs are always front and center. I once saw him at Largo (said in best Nick Harcourt voice) with one of his many musical projects called something like "The Ranchero Bros." - more accoustic and country than his solo or 97s stuff. He's a stud.
I had a hell of a time finding any websites that have images as their own html files to which I could link for Avatar purposes. I'm happy with Hove (though I really want 50), but if anyone has any tips, please post em.
On another note, if one was to drive around LA running errands for four hours on a Sunday afternoon flipping between Power 106 and 100.3 The Beat, one would hear "In Da Club" and "Wanksta" rougly 238,000,000 times.

I recently had baby #2 (isn't this #2 for you too?), and I have to say, it took me FOREVER to get the weight (well, my baby is only 6 months old, so not exactly forever, but MUCH longer than with baby #1) to come off.
So, as you can't predict your size, and past experience is not necessarily a guide, I'd say wait until much closer to the day of the function. If you're in NYC (which, somehow, I think you're not...), you can rent a formal dress and have several nice places to choose from. That's the way I'd go if I were "on the way back down" from pregnancy weight gain. Who wants to buy a lovely outfit that's only going to be too big once you get all your excess poundage off?
It took WAY too long for my boobs to be back to their normal size -- that was the worst. Back to top

Too long being a relative term, I'm sure, though if you asked Mr. dtb, I'm sure he'd feel differently. Back to top

Hey Leagl: Sorry I attributed your good work to BL. Mah bad.
Okay, onto American Idol chatter. Yesterday I tried to post something about my trip to see American Idol live in North Hollywood) this weekend, but it didn't work out real well (the post and the trip both). So let me just say that Paula and Corey are both shorter than you think, even for entertainers.
I think there's not much chance that Carmen will be voted out first because (a) she's cute and (b) she's going to do a country song and get a lot of votes from all the country fans. I think Julia Dimatto (sic) is the heavy favorite to get the boot. The only reason she's here is because of the sympathy vote from the way they edited the Glendale show, and that's got to have worn off by now (doesn't it?). I'd list my "most likely to get voted off" list as :
1. Julia
2. Ricky (The worst singer in the bunch, IMHO -- the fact that he got in and Chip didn't is very very wrong).
3. Charles
4. Carmen
5. Trenyce
