Like Selling Liquor to Lawyers
Quote:
OVERPAID?
So the Calgary Herald's business section ran a list of "The 10 most overpaid jobs in Canada" (www.canada.com/calgary).
While he wasn't actually named in the list, the Herald used a picture of the Red Wings' own Curtis Joseph to illustrate No. 6: "Lackluster professional athletes. An athlete that brings in more revenue than he or she is paid earns their keep . . . Many don't." The caption pointed out that Cujo "pulls in $8 million U.S. a year."
Remember, it's "The 10 most overpaid jobs in Canada," so Czech goalies weren't eligible.
The other sports-oriented entry was No. 7: Beer endorsers, like former Canadien Rejean Houle. Nothing against beer-shilling jocks, it's just an unnecessary job.
The Herald said beer accounted for 81.3 percent of the 2.7 billion liters of alcoholic beverages sold in Canada in 2002, so "selling beer to Canadians remains about as difficult as pitching bananas to monkeys."
Any Canadians who might be offended by that stereotype can take it up with the Herald.
