I think my avatar is working fine. Are you referring to technical difficulties or the fact that I've got an east coast hip hop star up there?
After 7 contestants on AI (I'm watching it on TiVo), I'd say that Charles Grigsby is in big fuckin trouble.
More despues.

Edited: The system keeps deleting the link to my avatar on my profile. Anyone know why? This is the third time today I've gone into my profile and the "avatar-link" box has been blank, and I've had to re-paste the URL. Help.

You're linking to a Geocities site. For some technical reason which I cannot explain, geocities blocks such links. Try to find that Jiggaman photo elsewhere, or, alternately, copy and save it to your own host account with one of the links listed in weblinks above.

He's also at least partway right. Round the world men of varied races and ages prefer women with a waist to hip ratio of 70%.
Given the worldwide popularity of Babewatch, smart money says there's also an ideal chest to waist ratio.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
It wasn't the greatest episode ever of American Idol, but it was aiight, it was aiight.
That said, evenodds, I think you're insane to think that Corey was one of the worst? For the first time, I could see him winning. I think he'll get to the top 5, certainly.
Here's the str8 diary.
8:03: Oh my god, it's a 2-hour show? I think I need some carb-free beer. What do you mean there's no such thing? On the other hand, Seacrest just made a joke at his own expense (I'm blushing, but with all this tanning cream how can you tell). Now I've seen it all.
8:10: Kimberly Locke apparently spends her days helping baby kittens across the street. I have a feeling the other 11 do too . . .
8:12: She can really sing. Why isn't she? Stop twitching! B+
8:14: I'm willing to bet Penske's salary that Lamont doesn't say one mean thing all night.
8:19: I wonder how much footage they had to shoot in order to capture Josh saying 3 grammatically correct sentences? He and his wife must take turns with the brain.
8:21: Eye candy, ear candy. JG still looks like the odds-on.
8:25: Push-ups? We have a winner!!!
8:27: Animal control? We have some roadkill. The address is Charles' upper lip. Thanks very much. Hey, Charles works for that retarded kid who used to do PSAs with Wayne Gretzky.
8:28: Charles looks like he'd rather be anywhere else. That's how I feel. Why Paula likes him, I have no idea. Anyone else noticce that all the judges look at the performer except Simon, who watches them on the TV monitor? Simon's my caucasian.
8:29: I just lost Penske's salary - Lamont said that Charles struggled through the song. Crap. Guess I'm gonna have to buy my house somewhere south of the 10 FWY. Oh well, I hear Ladera Heights is nice.
8:35: Who's worse: Hockey dads or stage moms? Poor Kimberly. "The years I gave up singing were the unhappiest years of my life. Honest mom. I'm doing it cause I love it! It has nothing to do with your unrealized dreams."
8:38: Moving to Branson sure paid off, cause this girl is a pro. Want to touch the midriff.
8:48: Ricky's sister: "Ricky's just a cool guy all around." Ricky's sister just wins the "I need to get out more" award.
8:56: Ryan Seacrest makes a Britney/Fred Durst joke that made no sense.
8:56: Julia DeMato should burn all childhood pictures of herself, and this show, and every copy made of this show whatever the medium. She is Connecticut trash. I think she used to hang out at Toad's on Saturday night.
8:59: There's a song by the Monks called "Nice legs, shame about her face." Now I know who they wrote that about. And I thinks she's wearing a spider web on her neck. The str8 cat just climbed up on my lap, so Ima stop typing for awhile.
9:07: Ok we're back. Here's hoping Jagermeister doesn't have a lot of carbs. Clay let the kids at the Y duct-tape him to the wall? I have a feeling that happened to him a bunch in junior high. He looks less gay on TV than he does in person, NTT . . . He also has an enormous head. What's the ideal head/body ratio? Whatever it is, Clay is tied with Renee Zellwegger for the all time lead.
9:17: Vanessa getting comments, and Simon has hit it dead on. She's got a great voice, and she's got zero chance to win this competition. Anyone else think that she might be a virgin?
9:22: Another dead relative. I hear (and)Violins.
9:25: Since when can Corey sing like this? Calling the bookie now . . . All these fuckers can sing; the real disparity is in performance ability. Kim C. and Corey have it. Charles and Julia don't. This might be Clay's downfall too. If he'd get a nose job, he'd really have a chance.
9:35: Please let Carmen be one of those lapsed mormons. They're the funnest. Want to touch the midriff. You can't hurry love, Carmen, but you can hurry over to sit on my jammy. But I wonder, if they just wanted eye candy, why didn't they take the girl from OC?
9:41: So remind me, which Pointer Sister is Trynycye? I think she's the one in yellow. I'm obsessed with her arms. Bring her out!
9:44: Must watch the arms in slo-mo. Don't know whether to be attracted or afraid.
9:48: At some point, Ruben's going to wear a classy suit, and it's going to be GAME ON.
9:53: Ruben delivers the line of the night about the little bitty chairs. RUBEN RUBEN RUBEN!!!
After all that's been said and done (there's just a part of me that can't let go), it says here that Charles Grigsby goes home first tomorrow. Others who shouldn't sleep real well tonight are Julia and Kimberly Locke. Josh and Ruben are still my final 2, with Corey and Kimberly Caldwell coming on strong.

Saw this from Julie D'Amato on (though I missed part of Gay, I mean Clay, Aikens and his reviews). She still sucks. I hate the way she looks at the camera. I cant tell if she is twenty or forty and she reminds me of the Lovely and Talented X from Carnival Cruise Lines. She definitely has a career doing that. Please let her go.
Now, I like tha Ruben. He has a Shaq meets Rerun from Whats Happenin thing going on. I fear that he will be dead by forty if he doesnt slim down (like the linebackers from "Real Sports"). Fat is not cute, cuddly and huggable, it is just dangerous. And I hope he doesnt win based in part on that bc it wont encourage him to lose the weight (hello Chris Farley). But I love him and Trenyce (who could use a last name) the best.Back to top

Apparently, the Beastie Boys took a break from their recordsing sessions for their new record to make an anti-war song. They lyrics are a bit simplistic, but they're also pretty funny. Lyrics and mp3 can be foundhere .

I'm reading that now, and it's very entertaining, especially if you're fascinated by the symptoms of paranoid schizophrenia, like me. But goddammit that Oprah Book Club seal on the front makes me cringe and hide the cover when I'm on the subway.
I know what you mean. I had to overcome my own snobbishness when I read it. But I'm glad I did. Even now, months after I finished it, I find myself mulling it over.
Word.
I read that book about 5 years ago (geez, is that possible?). I know I was either pregnant, or had just had my first baby, so it had to be about 5 years ago, wow...
Anyway, the point is, I still think about that book -- and his first one "She's Come Undone".
Whichever of you said the Oprah bookclub business was a good thing, I agree. Her selections tended toward the depressing (to put it mildly), but everything I read that had her sticker on it I liked. I'm thinking of one right now that I think was called "Gap Creek" -- very memorable.Back to top

I read I Know This Much is True right after the bar exam. I loved it, but I would never recommend it to someone who is even mildly depressed because it's the most depressing thing I've ever read. His book "She's Come Undone" is also amazing, but similary dreary. I've been reading a lot of Kathy Reichs' novels lately and I like her so much better than Patricia Cornwell, I've decided.
ok, on to AI. I still LOVE Clay. I don't care if he's gay and belongs on Broadway, I can't stop smiling when he's performing, and he's the only performer I can say that about. I'd duct tape him to my bedroom wall any day.
I was shocked at how much Kim L. sucked. I guess "Over the Rainbow" really is the only song she can see. I guess if I practiced the same song for 12 years I could use that one song to get on AI too. She deserves to be eliminated based solely on that performance, but she won't be.
I'm not on the Corey love train, but he didn't suck. Charles is kind of endearing -- I can understand why a lot of teenage girls and grandmothers might vote for him. Julia sucks and I'd be ok with her leaving tonight. Carmen also sucked, and Simon was so full of shit when he said that performance justified his choice.
I don't like Kim C. but the girl can perform and is Barbie-pretty. I thought Vanessa was great, actually (but remember I'm tone deaf) and I seriously doubt she's a virgin. If anyone's a virgin on that show it's the Mormon girl. Mormons scare me.
damn, how come I can write a book about one episode of AI, but I can't get two pages of a deposition outline written?Back to top

I am posting this here because I know several cyclists read the FB:
Kazakh rider Andrei Kivilev died at a hospital in Le Puy-En-Velay, France, Wednesday from head injuries sustained in a crash in the second stage of Paris-Nice on Tuesday, his Cofidis team said.
Kivilev's team doctor, who treated the 29-year-old rider at the scene of Tuesday's crash, was among those calling for the wearing of helmets to become law - as it currently is in Belgium.
The death of Kivilev means that the peloton will, following a moment of silence at the start of the third stage, not engage in any real racing as a mark of respect for the soft-spoken Kazakh, whose talent shone through when he came fourth in the 2001 Tour de France.

Thurgreed, believe it or not, I was addressing _women's_ perspective on their own racks, given that several female posters were going back-and-forth complaining, not what makes you ogle 'em or not. Whether you disagree with how women actually regard themselves was irrelevant to my peaceable call for posters to quit bemoaning the state of their bosoms, which I'm sure are all smashing anyway.
And is anyone else watching The Family?

Three observations:
Charles is gone.
Ruben is going to win.
Kim C's outfit looked like she was playing "Whore Number 2" in some 1980s post-apocalyptic / distopian sci-fi thriller. And she really isn't a great singer. Good enough for Branson, yes. But not record-deal good.Back to top

Jigga-wha?
Jigga-who?
Just because he has the voice of a castrati does't alleviate his responsibility to hit the notes in his song.
I can't stand his "singing."
Ultimately, what I want to hear on AI is something that you could conceivably put on a radio. That eliminates Clay and his gayer than cheese broadway-lounge act. Though the girls love him, it's the geek-love thing and like any crush it will pass. Kim Locke doesn't have a strong enough voice to overcome her look (i.e., she's no Martha Wash) and her perfomance isn't that interesting. Last night was bad. She might be able to pull off another good performance but for now she seems rather one dimensional.
Of all the people performing last night, I think Kim Caldwell, Charles, Trenyce, Ruben, and maybe Josh could make money in the music business.Back to top

God, that's horrible. I've always thought helmets should be mandatory in professional cycling. It's crazy not to require them in a sport where speeds reach 55+ mph on the descents. Racers in all other sports wear them (e.g., downhill skiing), so why not in cycling? Fashion, that's why. It's considered uncool. Well, it's even more uncool to be dead or brain-injured.Back to top

Getting to hockey, with the additions of 70's greats Housley and Gilmour and Nolan, did the Leafs just get older than the Red Wings and Rangers.
Speaking of the Rangers, how can a team with the likes of Bure, Kovalev, Lindros, Nedved, Holik, Leetch, Poti and now Anson Carter NOT be able to win games. It doesn't make sense. Except that maybe there isn't a strong scoring Winger among them.

I am waiting for them to announce that Wendel has come out of retirement, along with Rick Vaive and Bill Derlago. If this was 1990, we'd have a kick-ass team.
I think the Rangers have some serious firepower - if they do ever gel, some of their lines are like Dream Team lines (again, circa 1990 or so).
Yesterday was the most exciting trade day I think I've ever seen for hockey. It must have been so fun to be a GM yesterday.
