I have read it several versions of it. It is great. If you "don't get it", you probably have a bad translation--of which there are many. You should've started out by reading "Chuang Tzu", but if you have any questions about TTChing, you can email me or post it here.
Also, you might try "the Tao of Pooh", a book about a Taoist explaining its tenets to Winnie the Pooh. It is the closest thing to Taoism for Dummies.

Jigga-wha?
Jigga-who?
Just because he has the voice of a castrati does't alleviate his responsibility to hit the notes in his song.
I can't stand his "singing."
Ultimately, what I want to hear on AI is something that you could conceivably put on a radio. That eliminates Clay and his gayer than cheese broadway-lounge act. Though the girls love him, it's the geek-love thing and like any crush it will pass. Kim Locke doesn't have a strong enough voice to overcome her look (i.e., she's no Martha Wash) and her perfomance isn't that interesting. Last night was bad. She might be able to pull off another good performance but for now she seems rather one dimensional.
Of all the people performing last night, I think Kim Caldwell, Charles, Trenyce, Ruben, and maybe Josh could make money in the music business.
I gotta agree that Ruben will win. He has "star quality". He has that thing that Shaq has- that winning smile, that outsized body and personality, plus serious talent to go. He sang his song so differently and made it his. I thought that nobody touched him and Trenyce (but again I didnt see it all). I think Kim Caldwell has a nice voice in a Melissa Etheridge throaty ikinda way and it could be a winning voice. But she is not Britney hot and she doesnt have the overall star quality that Ruben does. Trenyce reminds me of a nubjian princess with a fabulous voice and great smile and presence, but giiven that not everyone loves her here, I cant think she has a chance. Clay and Julie have a great future on cruise ships and I have no idea who anyone else is. Ruben wins. Was he the lead in the odds making ?Back to top

Trenyce: This is the first time I was impressed with her. Still don't care for the clothes... for the smae reason I dodn't care for Julia's clothes. Mainly because they looked trashy.
She was fantastic. She had her own style while paying tribute to the Motown style at the same time. I thought this was the best performance I've ever seen on AI (although I haven't seen that many).
SEC_Chick wrote:
Reuben: Very good. But sometimes I think his facial expressions don't really fit with the song he's singing.
He was very, very good. His voice is just smooth and he doesn't overdo the inflections and the running up and down the scale that so many dumb ass R&B artists do nowadays. He is talented and should land a record deal somewhere.
SEC_Chick wrote:
Josh: Still got that country sound. Thought Simon was right to tell him to lose a couple pounds... but I am still wondering why he's never mentioned it to Kim L. I am not wild about him, and don't want him to win, but he apparently has a decent fan base.
At first I didn't get it with this guy. He is a marine and he's that fat? Who cares how many push ups you can do? You don't look good. And why is it that people can't look past national pride and vote him off because he sucks? He's cheesy and the twang he artificially adds to words that shouldn't be twunged makes any song he sings sound bad. Motown with a twang? Uh, no. Too bad he'll stick around all the way to the final three.
SEC_Chick wrote:
And my personal fave: CLAY!!!!!!! (What?!?! No kissy-face or hearty emoticon?!?! If there were one I would insert it here. I feel lost. I prefer to express sentiment with stupid smilies than with words....) I was concernend as to how well he would sing motown and was quite pleasantly surprised. He really did a great job, but I think the hair has taken a step back.
Is this the pretty boy with the new braids whose bio piece had something to do with some cop? I couldn't watch the bio and I ended up missing most of his performance (saw part of it at the end when they recapped). He sounded flat to me. I think he only made it this far because he looks like the american idol should.
SEC_Chick wrote:
All in all most of the performances were ok. I was impressed that they did so well. If I had to sing that genre, I would have immeasurably sucked myself.
I thought that other than Trenyce and Reuben, the performances were highly forgettable. Motown songs are great and there has to be one right for you out there. Are they allowed to pick their own songs for this part of the competition?

No. And I'm not even a moderator. So there.
Anyway, I forgot to mention my favorite moment on AI. When Simon critiqued Julia's performance and told her "but I wouldn't take any bows if I were you" and she thought he was dissing her performance and said "your opinion doesn't matter" when he was really just commenting on the shortness of her skirt. She is so stupid, it was truly beautiful. Not as beautiful as Melissa's "mercenary" comment on JM, but still a classic.Back to top

T[i]M[my]
1. Don't you mean "in which" ?
2. Is a spectrum by definition full, notwithstanding the frequent use of modifiers before it?
3. Can't something be more memorable then something else, in that the memories of it are fuller, more vivid, more detailed?
For example, if I were to rank FB posts along the full spectrum of memorableness, TM's polemics on breasts, particularly the posts about the jiggliness factor ("compare an 18 year old's breasts to a 35 year old's") are more memorable than the "craziest thing you ever did while drunk" or wedding invitation RSVP-card-or-no posts, but less memorable than multo's t-f post.

I've never been a big fan of pigeonholing into different topics or threads, because I think it tends to interrupt the free flow of conversation. I think it's not a big deal to scroll past something thats not of interest, especially on a page with twenty different posts.
This board has historically been a pop cultural catchall board, which sometimes includes books, TV, movies, fashion, technology, sports, pets, kids, workplace frustrations, sex, recreation, cooking, travel etc. While certainly there have been other fora that have been more appropriate for discussion about some of these things, I can't remember any subject being kicked out of the fashion board in the past, even if there was another board that was more appropriate for the discussion.
That said, I am a go with the flow kind of person, so if the overwhelming support is for separate threads for books / movies / TV / music / etc, I'd go with that.Back to top

Mango - this is meant to be the free-wheeling FB. Any and all topics are welcome here.
And re: the creation of additional topics, I don't think we want to do that. It causes the discussion to become to disjointed. It's better for the community if everyone's on the same page, both literally and figuratively.

So, the point of separate forums for separate topics is . . . is what? That there actually IS a separate forum for sports is just a coincidence I guess. Maybe we should do away with all the forums on this board.
If there were some easier way in this new format (in contrast to on the Infirmation board) to skip lengthy posts not of interest, none of this would be an issue.
Oh, and I missed the rule that this board had a membership limited to the Infirmation participants. My mistake!Back to top

My apologies. I understood that a freewheeling discussion was the point of the Watercooler forum. I thought a board called Fashionistas actually had to do with fashion and, as advertised, sex.
Re disjointed discussions: I think I know what you're trying to say, but the reason I made the suggestion is the whiplash I've gotten transitioning among "all topics" discussed here. Disjointing. Owww!
