2. Is a spectrum by definition full, notwithstanding the frequent use of modifiers before it?
No. I am referring to this definition: "A broad sequence or range of related qualities, ideas, or activities: the whole spectrum of 20th-century thought." [emphasis added.] It is quite possible to have a partial spectrum. If you are arguing that my sentence implied that I was referring to the full spectrum and thus didn't need the word, "full," I wouldn't argue with you.
robustpuppy wrote:
3. Can't something be more memorable then something else, in that the memories of it are fuller, more vivid, more detailed?
For example, if I were to rank FB posts along the full spectrum of memorableness, TM's polemics on breasts, particularly the posts about the jiggliness factor ("compare an 18 year old's breasts to a 35 year old's") are more memorable than the "craziest thing you ever did while drunk" or wedding invitation RSVP-card-or-no posts, but less memorable than multo's t-f post.
She didn't say, "more memorable," did she? "Very memorable" sounds stupid. Do you remember it? Yes. I remember it a lot. Can something have a bigger impact on your memory than other things? Yez.
Now, to move on to the bigger issue here. You are pointing out my inconsistencies. I have rules and try to impose them on others but am myself, deeply flawed.
No shit.
I do not bitch and moan about every single grammatical error. I point out stuff that hurts my ears. If you're trying to match me in my randomness, good luck. If you're trying to teach me a lesson, forget it. I am almost as hard headed as paigow.
But, I think your last post was on the way to being funny. And I welcome all clever critique of my crap. So, bring it.

I've been using a format similar to this one for seven years, so maybe selective scrolling is something that I've forgotten is a learned skill. I find it much easier to scan a post and figure out whether or not I need to read it and scroll on by in less than half a second in a format like this one than on the Infirmation boards where I routinely hit "next" and hope that the post that came up next was one I'd be interested in. I think that the avatars are rather helpful in flagging a post by someone that I routinely read, regardless of subject matter.Back to top

Trenyce was my favorite before last night and still is. Ruben was also great. I don't fault Clay for singing Broadway Motown because he didn't pick the genre. Same for Josh to a lesser extent. I thought Vanessa was pretty good and couldn't believe they picked on her pitch but didn't say anything to Corey who was flatter than Illinois. Anyway, both of them have loser personalities so no tears when they go. Kim L was probably the worst of the night, with Julie close. Carmen was slightly passable because she used her annoying munchkin vibrato only twice, very briefly and early on. Kim C was decent, at least as pretty and talented as Britney, FWIW. Charles made me seasick with all the bouncing. Rickey deserves another chance.Back to top

Hi. New Mom here. Sleep deprived and trying to disguise it and look put together at work. There's no way I can do the blow out/smooth thing on the hair in the am anymore (Hair: very thick; a few inches below shoulders). I'm looking to wear it up in a simple elegant style without looking like those god awful "buns" from the 70's. Right now I scoop it up in a ponytail, put it through again halfway and hide the mess by placing a silk scrungey around it. The bangs stay out. Any advice on where to look to find out how to put one's hair up nicely buy easily? Thanks!!Back to top

We were discussing HOCKEY - the official sport of the "FB"
So....in essence, No.

My apologies. I understood that a freewheeling discussion was the point of the Watercooler forum. I thought a board called Fashionistas actually had to do with fashion and, as advertised, sex.
Re disjointed discussions: I think I know what you're trying to say, but the reason I made the suggestion is the whiplash I've gotten transitioning among "all topics" discussed here. Disjointing. Owww!
Mango. All are welcome here, even if I hate them. Not you , dear. I dont know you. Here is a good rule of thumb. It the topic lacks any intellectual or redeeming flavor, it belongs here. This board is the junkfood and booze of the Lawtalking diet. Politics is like the nicotine of the lawtalkers. Some people are really fired up about it, but it isnt good for them and it tends to annoy others so they need their own separate space. The Watercooler is your food pyramid. The essentials- firm talk and other related matters. Really, it is what we need to get by, what we all have in common and what we ulitmately live on . It just isnt always that tasty or delicious.
Of course, this might mean that the FB book club bleongs elsewhere bc there may be some intellect in reading some of the things disucssed (not Wally Lamb btw- I read that book about the fattie and thought it was pure hooey). But remember, there is calcium in a Caucasian.

Oh, and I missed the rule that this board had a membership limited to the Infirmation participants. My mistake!
Paigow is right!!!! Has anyone noticed the amazing frequency of this comment being made since we've moved? My new best friend is always right!
The point of seperate forums, my dear Mango, is that people who ONLY want to discuss sports go the the sports board. But here, in the Land of Fashion, we like to discuss EVERYTHING (except politics, December RotAF's lover, and LadyVal's boyfriend's big toe.....well OK, politics). We're multicultural here.
I for one love to read the sports, books, and TV threads here. I wouldn't go to the sports Board, or to a TV board, because I only care as much as is required here (which is generally very little).
There's no rule about membership being limited (although membership does have its privileges) so don't go getting all snarky here. It's just that folks here resent intruders who try to change the way it's been done. Fuck, that's why we have this new fucking board (which is TITS by the way). And since you haven't been around before, folks will bristle if you try to *improve* their little corner of the universe.
That is all.

First, Thurgreed, stop being such a playground bully. Picking on a new person and harping on your endless superiority as an original poster only make you sound like an ass. I don't expect some prissy polite tea party but at least have a good reason to be snarky.
Second, Mango, scanning the Re: lines will usually save you time. And you may in fact ultimately find it refreshing that a single post can veer from sex tips to fashion to bitch-slappin another poster to celebrity sleaze gossip rather'n having everyone separate every comment out into a separate forum.Back to top

My dear, the difference between Wally Lamb is that he is self important despite the fact that he is a schlockster, where as the great Ms Susann (whose third book was a huge disappointment btw) was selfimportnat bc she was a schlockster. She knew schlock, she loved schlock and she lived schlock. Lamb eschews the schlock that he creates. Spare me.Back to top

On my screen, your avatar usually appears to be a compressed version of a banner from the site where you found that picture. To see the picture, I had to right-click on the avatar and select "Properties" and then paste the url of .jpg file into my browser.
I say usually because after I posted, it initially appeared the way it usually does. Then, when I reloaded the page, I saw the Maude picture all over -- your avatar, the image I posted, etc. But then I reloaded again and I was back to the banner. Which I can't find anywhere on that site, BTW.
I know at least someone else on the board has this problem because someone made a reference to it the other day.
